I am a huge fan of this product. I bought into the 2.0 when it was first available and was a little disheartened when a paid product was reverted to "beta". I understood and didn't ask for a refund. That being said, I really have hoped for way more communication on the beta progress or some sort of beta upgrades etc. Are there any communications on this product that can be shared? Is there a release roadmap etc? signed Loyal but frustrated

I think the "failed to create quartz event tap" is linked to privacy permissioning issues. I had this (both machines running Mac OSX Mojave) and fixed by going to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy and unchecking and then rechecking the box allowing Synergy to control the computer. The second I did that the connection worked and Synergy is now ticking along nicely. Good luck!

I asked roughly the same question 3 months ago:

Just got this working on my end. It looks like the key is removing Synergy from "Security & Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility" before reinstalling.

The current Synergy 1.9 package for Ubuntu (synergy_1.9.1.stable~b327+2a0225c1_amd64.deb) unfortunately depends on libcurl3. Many other packages in Ubuntu (the most important of which, to me at least, are the curl binary itself and cmake) depend on libcurl4. libcurl4 conflicts with libcurl3 and cannot be installed simultaneously, which means I have to uninstall synergy and libcurl3. I'm pretty sure other developers will encounter the same problem. Can we get a re-spin of the package that depends on libcurl4 instead of libcurl3?

Had the exact same issue. Sam54123 and Johnmc's suggestion worked. Here are a few images to walk you through that process should you encounter the same problem:

I just picked up a copy of Synergy (used it back in the day but it's been years) and was disappointed by the intermittent latency I was getting. My setup is an ubuntu desktop (server) and a Macbook Pro laptop (client). Both machines are on a reliable WiFi connection. After reading the FAQ and posts by the Apple dev on how the wireless card works it's obvious these 'latency spikes' are due either to shared antenna access or power management features. I assume the power management feature has to be triggered when the time between packets is greater than some unknown threshold. With that in mind I decided to test my assumptions. # see man page for option descriptions $ ping -q -n -s 0 -i 0.1 <Synergy_Server_IP> #That could be any IP on the network really I'm used to linux so I'm not sure how to get the power management status from MacOS. However, the results are great. I no longer feel the intermittent 'latency spikes' under normal operating conditions. Clicking the wifi menu will still result in latency. There's nothing anyone can do about that, the card is scanning channels to find wifi networks so that's just the way it is. I left bluetooth on for these tests but I didn't have any devices connected. This approach adds network overhead. The total frame size for our ICMP request is 42 Bytes or 336 bits and the same for our reply. At the rate shown (waiting 100 ms between requests) that's around 10 ICMP requests per second for a total network overhead of 6.72 Kbps. I'm willing to sacrifice that tiny bit of bandwidth for a good Synergy experience. This approach uses more battery. Since we're tricking the wifi card into not going to sleep you can expect this to have a negative impact on battery life. How much? I have no idea. I mostly use synergy when I'm connected to power. Perhaps others are already doing this but I hadn't seen mention of it. My tests were a mix of "how does it feel" and actually graphing packets in Wireshark. One test I ran in Wireshark was to capture the time it took to move my mouse after a period of inactivity. Find the first packet the server sent to the client and note it's epoch time. Now wait for a response, In my case I sometimes have to try moving my mouse to the mac a second time. Note the response packet's epoch time. Take the difference and that is the latency you experienced. Run that test again while you run the ping I mentioned above. I now see latencies < 100 ms. I'm happy to get feedback on this but I mostly just wanted to provide a cludgy solution. Run ping every time you run Synergy. -Zach

I can not install synergy 1.10 on Linux Mint 18.3 Xfce Always the error was "Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libqt5core5a (>=5.7.0)" After trying to solve the error for several weeks; I found that there is a deb version for UBUNTU that does not appear in the regular downloads. https://symless.com/synergy/download/direct?platform=ubuntu&architecture=x64 I had nothing to lose, so try that version, and install it perfectly on Linux Mint 18.3. Everything working wonderfully. I write this in case someone else has this installation problem ..

Hey y'all! Kelvin here. Just a few updates coming directly from the Synergy team that I feel that you should know about. Please note that these updates have all been announced publicly and I will be providing sources for these. They are public information. Synergy gets new engineers! A few weeks ago, Symless had the opportunity to interview 6 experienced software developers that each teamed together to create an application known as "Thermocracy" as a display of their amazing talent, an app that is designed to allow voting of office temperature. Though it has not been confirmed publicly quite yet, Symless has expressed interest in providing job offers to these individuals. Should these 6 engineers be hired, this would be GREAT for the Synergy project as it moves forward. Looking forward to it, are you? Source: Slack, Twitter (@Synergy_App) Synergy 2 Status Our Slack is a great place to be. There's various amazing people there that are willing to help out with any issue that you may have. However, the Synergy team also has a significant presence there and as such, not only is direct informal support provided there, but some early announcements are also made there before being pushed out to the forums, blog, social media, etc. Earlier today, a message was sent publicly to the early access beta portion of our Slack community from Symless CEO Nick Bolton. It read as follows: "Hey, S2 beta is no longer in development. We’re skipping that version and going to the next one (we’ll probably call it S3). Your beta early access account will allow you access to future betas. Let me know if you need a refund." Synergy 2 development will most likely be discontinued in favor of a new version that gets the balance of a streamlined interface right, offers more advanced configuration for our tech junkies in the community, and offers a wide selection of features, including most of those available in Synergy 1 (if not all of them). If you have paid the beta access price, as stated above, you will have access to what seems at this time all of the future betas. If you have any concerns, please make a forum post about it in General Discussion or use the support link on the website. If you require or desire a refund for your beta purchase or any other purchase, please use the support link or email [email protected] Details on the Synergy refund process can be found here: We feel that our community has a right to be informed and that no information that is released to the public should ever be released in exclusivity. Post on the forums if you have any questions!

Hi! Based on the number of positive reactions your post has gained, it's clear that this is something a number of Synergy users are wondering about. I, myself, can easily see myself standing in your position, so it's absolutely understandable why you'd feel this way. However, Symless has been operating on "maintenance mode", per se. They lost a significant amount of their software developers and as such, have been reprioritizing certain aspects of the business like hiring personnel over the development of the project. But, that changes soon! Symless recently found 6 talented software devs to help develop the project. With that being said, you should be seeing some changes come your way very, very soon! Sorry for the wait, though. It might be a little more though. Have any issues been present for you? Thanks! https://twitter.com/Synergy_App/status/1087410009359683585

We have a very early pre-alpha demo of the new Electron config app. What I've seen so far is very promising and very exciting. I should have a pre-alpha/alpha demo ready to show off within a few months.

Hey all, I just got synergy a couple of months ago and it has been working out great so far. I only have one minor nit pick and am not sure how many feel the same way. Problem: I have a Desktop and a MacBook and have Synergy 1.0 installed on both of them. Due to the nature of my set up, I would love to be able to use my Macbook's Keyboard while using my Desktop's Mouse. This is currently not possible due to Synergy defining a whole system being a Master, while the other being a Slave. Request: I would love to be able to separately definitely which system will have the Master Keyboard and which will have the Master Mouse. If any dev sees this, I would love to know how complex a change like this is and whether it should be something that is doable or impossible due to some fundamental limitation.

I am requesting that we have have support for Arch Packages, so that we don't need to use unofficially support AUR packages that do not configure properly. Symless Supports Windows, MacOS, Red Hat/Fedora/CentOS, Debian Base and even Rasbian. But there is no Arch Based Distrobution Support at all. Bring Proper Support for Arch!!

Dear Synergy community, even if I'm a very satisfied Synergy User for many, many years (must be >5 years), I have never posted something in the forum. However, today I thought it is time to write this post about an issue with the French grave accent (è). On my Server computer I can easily create this character by pressing Shift + "´"-key followed by the "e"-key. However, this doesn't work on my client PC. No character will be put on the screen, when I press this combination. The "e" with the accent in the other direction (é; acute accent) works perfect on the Server and Client, but not the accent grave. Is this a known issue and how can it be fixed? My Computer configuration is the following: Server: Windows 10 Home 64 Bit Client: Windows 7 Professional, 64 Bit Keyboard: German keyboard Synergy Version: 1.8.6-stable Many thanks for your support and best regards Markus

Hi, just installed latest release synergy2. And I'm almost happy - get it working for my windows 10 and xubuntu 17.10 machines. But one thing still is not working as expected: On linux synergy does not autostart before login. So I still need a keyboard for login. Does anyone know how to put synergy into start at boot?

Guys, Currently, that's not actually a feature we support, but it is a feature request that I'm happy to pass along to the development team.

I have this problem as well. This might not work for everyone but I've found if i open a text editor - for me i use the gnome todo app then just hold control and type a vowel that would appear accented. Seems to go away. Server: Windows 10 - HP OMEN 15, Client: Ubuntu 18.04.2 - Surface pro 4

Had the same issue and this does indeed work. I noticed that it was also in my case on a 2018 macbook pro, tied in someway to the battery %, so that must be some sort of condition in their setup for the wifi on/off.

Well I am glad that S2 is getting a major overhaul to be as reliable as S1 was. I wanted to use S2, but had to revert back to S1 for my work needs, and with macOS Mojave, S1 will soon no longer function it reports. So cannot wait for S3 to come fast enough.

When I'm working from home, I like to have my laptop in the middle of my two home desktop monitors, to reduce neck strain. With 2 computers and 3 monitors in Synergy 1 I set up the screens for my desktop and laptop Windows machines to be Desktop-Monitor-1 <-> Laptop <-> Desktop-Monitor-2 by using this configuration: 1. Reverse the monitors in Windows Display Settings (so that the displays were 2 then 1, left to right) then 2. Set up your Synergy config file so that it looked something like this: section: links Desktop: right = Laptop left = Laptop Laptop: left = Desktop right = Desktop end That's it. It took a while to get the handle of scrolling right off my right-hand monitor to get the cursor to appear on the left of the left-hand monitor due to the first step, but it worked easily and I got used to it. A fix or work-around for Synergy 2 is long overdue.

I think the big misconception is that Open Source means Free, as in Free Beer, where the true meaning is Free as in Freedom. Developers that take an existing open source tool and add value to it should have the "freedom" to charge for that added value. There's nothing preventing others from taking the original open source tool and use it. As somebody mentioned above, look at RedHat. They added value to the original Linux distribution and has now been bought by IBM for $34 billion! Do you think Linus is complaining about that? I appreciate what Nick has done with Synergy and that is why I support him with both a v1 and v2 license. I've read numerous discussions about how cloud providers are making money off of open source tools and now some of these are changing their licenses to prevent companies from making money off them. Doesn't sound like freedom to me. There's nothing preventing you from taking all these tools and setting up your own infrastructure in a data center. These cloud providers add value by streamlining configuration, providing support, improving integration, etc. Everything in life is about tradeoffs. I'd much rather pay somebody to deal with the hassles, especially if it's not my core competency and doesn't improve my business. Anyway, rant over.

@Jason D killing the synergy-config process, then starting up Synergy again sometimes works. Sometimes Shift+F5 (not Ctrl) works. It's random. Definitely annoying.

So, it's odd because everyone keeps saying that sunergy 1 is more stable than 2. I switched back to Sunergy 1 pro on my devices, and every problem I had in version 2 was even worse, and occurred more often. I have moved back to v2 and am happy with it. Really looking forward to some stability fixes and patches.

This same issue just happened to me. This is my config, using Synergy 1.10; Macbook pro OSX 10.13 | Surface Pro 3 Win10 | Desktop PC Win 10 (server) I've been using v1.10 since July release. This past thursday/friday, mouse clicks have randomly stopped working on client machines. I can mouse over to the server, then back to a client and the mouse buttons will work for a few minutes, then stop again.

I had to sort through old information to get method right and, as is usual in these cases, one small detail was holding me up. Here's what I did to get synergy 1.10 to start at boot on my Pi 3b+ running the latest Raspbian as of this date. Credit Nick Cullen for the script. 1) Make this script in /usr/bin and name it something descriptive like startsynergy. Or name it Bucephalus if you want. It worked for Alexander. It's usual to give scripts an extension like .sh, but not necessary. I didn't use an extension. Whatever you name it, use the full name in what follows. ===================================== #!/bin/bash killall synergyc # Kill all previous synergy clients sleep 1 # Wait 1 second /usr/bin/synergyc --name raspberrypi 192.168.1.5 # client name, server ip or name exit 0 # Exit gracefully # use full path to executable if synergy not installed by pkg manager. substitute your client name and server ip. # sunergyc = client, synergys = server ===================================== 2) Make the startsynergy script executable with --> sudo chmod +x /usr/bin/startsynergy 3) Add the following line to ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart @lxterminal --command startsynergy Put this before the line that starts with @xscreensaver or else it will not run the script. Note: There are autostart files at /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart and at /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart. Editing either of these will not run the script. You'll find people on line telling you to use one or the other of those but that is old information. Recent versions of Raspbian have per-user autostart files located in the home directory inside the hidden .config directory at the path in step 3. Use that one. Your script is correct if you can run it with the command startsynergy. The line you added in autostart will then do the same thing at boot - open a terminal and run the command. The terminal closes at the end of the script. Synergy will connect and run without opening the GUI that puts the little circle icon in the taskbar. This is fine for me as, once I've configured synergy the first time with the GUI, I never look at it. If you like the GUI to run, that takes one of about six other methods I've read about but not tried.
  40. 1 point
Ok, now I get it better. Send your fake keystrokes to the underlying OS directly rather than to the window, so that you look like any other input device. Also, there's already at least one keyboard macro solution that works with Synergy on Windows, I believe. You might not need to write ANY code at all for this.
  41. 1 point
Thanks for this. I ran Synergy 2 for a while to get the latest Pi support and it ran OK but I didn't like not being able to lock the server and it sometimes would lose the background service. It was only a little irritating sometimes, though, and overall I think it will get smoothed out and come up to speed and get new features. So I'm watching it. Everything worked except the clipboard on the Pi with the old version (1.4, I think, was the only thing available until 1.10.0) but now that works, too. Keep going and good luck.
  42. 1 point
In the UI, click on "Configure Server", drag a new screen onto the grid and name it the same as your client. That will get it going.
  43. 1 point
I don't need any new features. I just want synergy to be stable, which it has never been for me. Focus on making it work, forget the bells and whistles. I've been on board since 2013. Off and on. Synergy 2 I have never been able to even try out even though I paid for it. It seems I need to be able to configure proxy. What benefit exactly would I get with cloud? 1.8 works OK between windows machines. That's the only fully positive experience I have from Synergy. Too bad I don't really need two parallel Windows PCs, but the other one always tends to be Linux. Between Windows and Linux the keyboard gets screwed up constantly. One one machine caps lock is on and on the other it's off. Need to kill synergy to fix it. Most of the time I can't get @${[]} characters right on the guest PC (Linux). Ie. the Alt-Gr issue. It has never worked out of the box. Copy-paste used to be bad for years, now it's fixed. Thank you for that. There are new mouse/keyboard products that can control up to three machines at the same time. If Synergy doesn't get their act together soon, I'll make the switch. I really want you guys to succeed though. Please just fix the basic features.
  44. 1 point
Why do you guys insist on making everything automatic when that's clearly a point of frustration for so many of us? I was eagerly waiting for this update since I bought Synergy 2 last December, only to realize that proxy authentication and configuration is not supported (something which I think you should mention somewhere in your page, seeing as how a lot of people rely on proxy functionality, instead of baiting unsuspecting buyers). When I contacted support about this they said the proxy support was going to be released in a few days, and they asked me if I could wait a bit instead of getting a refund. I took their advice since I genuinely thought the feature was coming. It's been more than 4 months and of course I can't get a refund now, for something which I literally haven't had a chance to even try out. Now I see that proxy support is finally released (at least for Windows).... but what is my surprise when I get the following error: [ Config ] [2018-04-26T15:08:46] debug: connected to background service [ Config ] [2018-04-26T15:08:46] debug: saying hello to background service [ Config ] [2018-04-26T15:08:48] warning: version check disabled, skipping [ Config ] [2018-04-26T15:08:48] error: Reply status code: 0 [ Config ] [2018-04-26T15:08:48] error: failed to check update: reply has error: Proxy requires authentication <<<<<---------------------------- [ Config ] [2018-04-26T15:08:48] error: Reply status code: 0 [ Config ] [2018-04-26T15:08:51] error: Reply status code: 0 And I can't even touch the configuration because you insist on making everything automatic! (even if said automation doesn't work whatsoever). More and more it starts to look as if I just threw 40 dollars down the drain. I've been trying really hard to support you and be patient as I have a few friends that recommended you and I believe that as developers we should be more supportive of each other, as opposed to some big company. But this is getting ridiculous. Why is it that you keep on insisting on crippling your power users and prevent them from actually taking advantage of your really cool (apparently) software you created? Is there any meaningful timeline that I can expect so that I can finally enjoy my purchase? or will this be one of those features that will never get implemented and I'll be left here hanging with my useless purchase? Do you guys actually care about this or not? Because so far it seems as if this is a really low priority item since you keep coming with excuses and non-working solutions instead of actually addressing the issue we care most about: being able to configure the proxy settings, which shouldn't be something terribly difficult if you just stopped trying to make everything so "seamless" and instead focus on actually making it work and THEN making it seamless. As a last hail mary... is there a way I could still get a refund for this? I'm really frustrated by now and would like to put this behind. Ideally by being able to use my Synergy 2 Pro, but if not, then at least getting my money back so I can go buy something that does work. Thanks

I was able to complete the sign-in process simply by setting XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP to GNOME: XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME synergy-config

Me too. I would like Linux synergy to run as part of the operating system beneath the user, so that it will continue to work when switching between users. I had to stop synergy, switch user, and start synergy on the next user every time I changed users. Thanks.

I've just knew about this software and I'm amazed with its features. I've started from the 2.0 and I'm missing an interface for changing settings. One of the problemns I'm having is the difference of resolutions on my both devices. The host is 720p and the client is 2160p which makes the pointer speed too low in the client. Is it possible to adjust this in this version of the software? Any plans for the future? I would also like to lock the mouse in a specific screen instead of using them side by side, but also don't see an option like this anywhere. The size of the main window of the software is too small in a 4K resolution making me get closer to the monitor to read what it's written (as seen in the attatched image) Congrats for your work.

I purchased version 2 for $5 and when I went to the download page, saw that it's only available for 64-bit Linux. I use 32-bit Ubuntu at work and that is all we are able to use due to the architecture that we use. Is there any plans of releasing a 32-bit version?
  49. 1 point
I'm also having the same issue. It appears there's a bug in the Synergy GUI that doesn't save the hostname. I've worked around it by editing the file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.http-synergy-project-org.Synergy.plist and adding the key / value pair: <key>serverHostname</key> <string>SERVER IP ADDRESS</string>

Also, you can use "Scroll Lock" to temporarily tell Synergy to not switch screens while playing.
