Using two servers with one client

I've got a home theater PC that outputs to a projector, and I'd like to control it with a laptop. The trick is that I'd like the option of using one of two laptops (not concurrently, of course - just one or the other). I'm having trouble configuring Synergy in this context. I had it configured to operate as a client on the home theater PC and as a server on the first laptop, but I found that I couldn't connect to it on the second laptop unless I removed the association with the first laptop. Is this an inherent limitation of the software - i.e., is the client only capable of using at most one server? Or am I doing something wrong?
