Synergy interferes with VM keyboard on VMware Player

After the keyboard on a VM (I have 3) running on VMWare Workstation 12 player stopped responding, the issue was fixed by a complete reinstall of the VMware player. Once that was done, however, Synergy 1.7.6 started crashing (on the client side where have the VMs). The crash is a nasty one since mouse control is lost, the system is extremely sluggish and it takes about 30 min to close open applications to reboot the PC. So, I moved to a version 1.7.5 just in case and as soon as I installed it, VM machines' keyboards stopped working again. That again required re-installation of the player which was followed by more Synergy crashes. Please have a look into this issue.
