Reinstall from Fresh

Troubleshooting (Synergy 1)

How to do a fresh reinstall of Synergy 1 on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

First, uninstall Synergy using Add or remove programs (or Apps & features).

Next, run regedit and delete these registry keys (if they exist):

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Symless
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Synergy

Now, delete these directories (if they exist):

  • C:\ProgramData\Symless
  • C:\ProgramData\Synergy v2
  • %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Synergy
  • %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Symless

Next, reboot Windows to ensure that the hook DLL is completely unloaded.

Finally, install as you would normally.

First, close the Synergy app if it's running.

Next, delete the Synergy app from the Applications directory.

Now, run these commands to remove the settings (don't worry if the files or dirs don't exist).

rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/Synergy
rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/Symless
rm -rf ~/Library/Synergy
rm -rf ~/Library/Symless
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.https-symless-com.Synergy.plist
rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.http-symless-com.Synergy.plist

Then, run this command to unload the preferences:

killall -u $USER cfprefsd

Finally, install as you would normally.

Sometimes the cfprefsd command fails silently, so you may need to retry the reinstall steps.

First, Remove the Synergy package using your package manager.

Finally, run these commands to remove your settings (don't worry if the dirs don't exist):

rm -rf ~/.config/Symless/
rm -rf ~/.config/Synergy/
rm -rf ~/.synergy/
rm -rf ~/.symless/

Finally, install as you would normally.
